Second Hand Untreated Wood Furniture
For untreated wood use the baking soda method to remove the ink stains. Baking soda’s chemical properties make it a great help in removing ink stains. It is also natural, safe to use and inexpensive. First, Add enough baking sofa to half a cup of water in a small bowl to create a paste. Second, spread the paste over the ink stain and rub it in with your fingers. Third, dampen a soft cloth with clean water and wipe the area to remove the paste. Repeat the process until the ink is completely removed. For bigger stains you may need to repeat this method continuously for a while. Lastly, wipe the surface clean with a soft cloth.
Second Hand Waxed or Polished Wood Furniture
For waxed or polished wood you will need to use the dish washing soap method as for fresh ink spills, even dish-washing soap and water can effectively remove the stain from your wood furniture. First, mix half a teaspoon of liquid dish washing soap with a third of a cup of hot water in a small bowl to make a soapy solution. Then, stir the solution to make lots of soap suds. Next, dip a soft cloth into the soap suds, not in the solution. Gently wipe the ink stain with the soapy cloth and use a clean, damp cloth to rinse off the solution from the wood. Finally, Dry the area using a dry towel.
Second Hand Wood With Finish Furniture
Mineral Spirits is a solvent that is powerful enough to remove even the finish of the wood. You will need to refinish. First, lightly buff the affected area with a cloth moistened with mineral spirits. Use a clean wet cloth to wipe the area. Refinish the affected area.
For an Old or Embedded in Stain in Second Hand Furniture
If the ink stain is already embedded in the wood, bleaching the surface of the affected area is the solution. First, apply denatured alcohol on a clean, soft cloth. Secondly, wipe the surface with the cloth to get rid of dirt or other impurities. Thirdly, sand the surface to remove the finish on the wood. Then, brush the debris off of the surface. Next, apply mineral spirits on a clean, soft cloth. After, wash the surface with the cloth to remove any oil or grease on the surface. Then, apply undiluted bleach to the stained surface using a clean, soft cloth. Let it sit on the surface for 10 minutes. Check if the stain is still visible and repeat the process if the stain is still prominent. Next, rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water and dry the surface with a clean dry towel. Finally, refinish the wood after 24 hours.
